Idiot Caused Computer To Crash
It was another Sunday morning when I made my way to class. As I arrived, I realised that I was the first to reach so since I had plenty time before anyone came, I decided to install windows on the computer that I was supposed to use. After 35 minutes, just as the installation finished, two guys bolted into the door and after saying morning the went out for a smoke. Soon after that the rest of the class arrived, and as the air condition in the building wasn't on yet, it was very hot so I decided to leave the classroom for a while in order to wash my face and get a drink.
By the time I came back (15 minutes later) I stared at the computer in horror. There was one antispyware program which I never saw or heard of was installed on the computer and running a scan. Then I said "never mind one of the other guys probably installed it" and I just left it there. About 2 hours later I went back to the same computer and I saw even more programs together with strange error messages that were coming up from time to time. I knew very well that they were not real error messages, I was under a virus attack. Later on that day I found out that the antispyware program which i saw in the morning was actually a rouge program which caused all the problems that I was having now. (for those of you who don't know a rouge program is basically a virus or spyware which pretends to be an Antivirus/ Antispyware). Now I was really mad. How did a rouge get on my PC?
After interrogating some of the guys I found out that one of them visited a pornographic website and the rouge program was the result of one of his downloads, but this was only the beginning. The program downloaded hundreds of pictures and videos and stored them in various locations throughout the computer, corrupted the registry, and kept downloading and installing more threats. In an attempt to remove the threats on the computer, I installed AVG and Windows Defender, however whatever they removed kept coming back. Since it wasn't my computer I didnt care to do anything else to clean it up, but later on the guys blamed me for causing the trouble to the computer which made the lecturer quite angry.
I explained the problem to her and, I also told her that at the time the program was installed I went out for a drink, and if she didnt believe me she could ask the guard to find out if I had really left the compound. After a short argument she finally believed me and asked me to help her clean up the mess a she had other classes later on.
I had a very nice job to do. I left a clean computer and was forced to clean up other people's mess. Just a reminder for those of you who watch porn. Watch out as you can never know when you will be attacked.
